- NFL Flag Football Is Coming to Madison
A New Opportunity for Youth, Families, and the Community Madison is about to experience something new. For the first time, NFL Flag Football is officially coming to our city, bringing a fast-paced, skill-driven version of the game to youth ages 6–17. This opportunity is being hosted locally through leadership and coordination by Coach Sherman Lightfoot , who has worked to introduce this nationally recognized league to Madison and surrounding communities. While NFL Flag Football is not affiliated with Madtown Elite Bulldogs , it is being brought to Madison by the same director who has long been committed to creating structured, high-level opportunities for youth development. This league represents the next step in expanding access, exposure, and pathways for young athletes in our area. A League Built for Today’s Game Flag football is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the country, and NFL Flag sets the standard. This league emphasizes speed, decision-making, teamwork, and football IQ without the use of pads or helmets, creating a safer and more accessible environment for athletes at every stage of development. The official NFL branding, jerseys, and league structure immediately set this opportunity apart. This is not recreational drop-in play. It’s an organized, competitive league designed to teach the game the right way. Clear Age Divisions. Purposeful Development. One of the strongest elements of this league is its age-appropriate structure: Ages 6U–9U will compete in 5-on-5 flag football , focusing on skill development, fundamentals, and learning the game. Ages 10U–17U will compete in 7-on-7 flag football , where speed, strategy, and competitive play take center stage. This structure ensures younger athletes learn properly while older players are challenged at a higher level, creating a smooth progression as athletes grow. What Registration Includes The league registration fee is $130 per player , and families can feel confident knowing exactly what that covers: Official NFL Flag jerseys Official NFL flag belts Full league operations Playoffs and championship competition Rings, trophies, and awards There are no hidden fees. Everything is clearly defined, reinforcing trust and transparency for families. Play Local. Compete National. What makes this opportunity truly special is the pathway. Winning teams earn the opportunity to compete in the NFL National Flag Championship , connecting local competition in Madison to a national stage. This gives athletes something to work toward and shows families that this league is about more than just a season. It’s about exposure, growth, and opportunity beyond city limits.
